Photography
Begin learning about photography by watching the video below. It gives the history of photography including famous photographers, photographs, and events.
The process of photography is classified as artwork and it involves more than just taking a picture. Photographs capture events or objects through the lens of a camera. The idea is similar to a painting because the photograph may be of still objects, moving objects, or landscapes.
Photos may be black and white or in color. Artists use the lighting to make their photo appear bright or dark. Photographers move their subjects (which can be anything from insects to humans to the dining room table) to create the perfect setup. They move around scenery to give photographs interesting angles.
Photography is taken with a camera, which uses film to record the picture. They develop photos in the darkroom through a process involving chemicals to bring out the photo on photography paper. To identify a photo you may notice the glossy texture of the paper, that the picture looks real, or the clear lines and detail.
Ansel Adams is one of the most famous photographers of the 1900s. As an American photographer he often chose to photograph the West. Many of his photos are black and white landscapes. Here is an example of his piece “The Tetons – Snake River”
